چکیده
Mycobacteriosis is a well-known disease that has been reported in variety of reptiles species. However, the occurrence mycobacteriosis sea turtles rarely documented, and most reports are from captive-reared animals. A juvenile green turtle ( Chelonia mydas ) was found stranded March 2020, Guanabara Bay, one urbanized polluted coastal areas Rio de Janeiro, Southeastern Brazil. The fair body condition exhibited multiple cutaneous fibropapillomas, covering almost 60% its body. Despite continued medical therapy, animal died 60 days after initial supportive care. Necropsy revealed granulomatous pneumonia, hydropericardium, small granulomas myocardium, liver, spleen, thyroid brain caseous exudate meninges brain. histopathological analysis showed disseminated inflammation various organs examined during necropsy. Intrahistiocytic acid-fast bacteria were observed heart, lungs, kidneys, adrenals. blood culture collected shortly admitted tested positive for Mycobacterium gordonae , an 8-week incubation period; however, had already by time results obtained. Postmortem examination confirmed systemic mycobacteriosis, identified as M. blood, liver lung cultures PCR amplification DNA extracts frozen tissue samples. This first report infection caused free-ranging turtle. Although source this remains unknown, it could potentially be related to anthropogenic activities e.g. waste dumping or leakage landfill sites). Increasing surveillance wild paramount importance better understand role mycobacterial species causative agents infections marine

The Biology of Basking in the Green Turtle (chelonia Mydas)
The green turtle (Chelonia mydas) is the only species of marine turtle known to atmospheric bask, whereby large numbers of turtles remain hauled out on shore. Historic records indicate that basking was once a common phenomenon, yet coastal development may have reduced basking populations to only a few remote areas worldwide. Our study aims to determine physiological roles that this behavior fus...

Observations were made on green turtles basking on the white sand beaches at French Frigate Shoals in the northwestern Hawaiian Islands. The highest rectal temperature recorded from the basking turtles was 31.3°C, but the surface temperature of the carapace attained values as great as 42.8°C. During basking, the turtles flipped sand onto their carapaces, but they did not appear to orientate the...
متن کاملGreen turtle (Chelonia mydas) genetic diversity at Paranaguá Estuarine Complex feeding grounds in Brazil
Sea turtles are marine reptiles that undertake long migrations through their life, with limited information regarding juvenile stages. Feeding grounds (FGs), where they spend most of their lives, are composed by individuals from different natal origins, known as mixed stock populations. The aim of this study was to assess genetic composition, natal origins and demographic history of juvenile gr...
متن کاملSome Aspects of Electrolyte Excretion in the Green Turtle, Chelonia Mydas Mydas.
Except for the brief period of egg-laying, five species of turtle are strictly marine: namely, the green turtle (Chelonia mydas), the loggerhead turtle (Caretta carettd), Ridley's turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea), the hawksbill turtle (L. imbricatd) and the leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea). Reptiles in the sea, like marine fish and marine birds, have a high intake of electrolytes; yet, a...
